Château d'Etroyes - Depuis 1720

The Château d’Etroyes Estate covers
50 hectares in Mercurey and Rully,
some of the best terroir in the Burgundy region.

In the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, 25km to the south of Beaune, we produce our great wines.
Ten of these hectares belong to the Mercurey Premier Cru appellation, including the renowned Clos l’Evêque,
the pride of our estate.

History

The history of Château d’Etroyes dates back to 1720

The roots of Château d’Etroyes were planted in the soil of Mercurey in 1720, when the Protheau family began to grow vines there. Over the generations, the estate expanded, in a spirit of determination and perfectionism.

In 2018, the partners in VisVires, a group of individual wine lovers with strong winegrowing links, took over the estate. Their aim was to carry on the historical work of the family and continue producing high-quality wines for traditional markets, both in France and for export.

Philosophy

The environment is our key daily concern

As we are committed to sustainable viticulture and an environmentally-friendly approach, we have begun the process of applying for HVE (High Environmental Quality) certification.

Our aim is to recover the organic activity of the soil, in order to stimulate greater interaction between the soil and the plant.

Expertise

Revealing the essence of each terroir

We mechanically work the soil to aerate it and force the vine roots to seek out nourishment from the deepest parts of the subsoil. Before the manual harvest in September, de-budding and green harvesting take place. A thorough selection of the healthiest, ripest grapes takes place on the vine plant. A team of sorters in the cellar then definitively remove any grapes that do not meet our standards.

In this way, only a careful harvest ends up in the Clos l’Evêque vat room, whose winemaking secrets produces excellent vintages. The wine production respects the integrity of the harvest, with ageing in oak barrels or vats for variable lengths of time, depending on the wine and the desired complexity. When this is complete, the wine is bottled on the estate.

Nos dégustations blancs

BURGUNDY Aligoté

White - 2016

Pale golden colour. A very precise taste, a fruity bouquet with citrus notes. On the palate, this energetic wine stimulates the taste buds and is perfect as an aperitif or with shellfish.

BURGUNDY White

Chardonnay - 2015

Excellent value for money, a very enjoyable aperitif wine with aromas of white flowers, almond and nougat. Also a good companion for sophisticated dishes due to its production process and oak barrel ageing.

RULLY White

La Chatalienne - 2017

A delicate, expressive nose, blending a lemony tone with yellow fruit such as peach and apricot. Full, rounded attack on the palate. This well-matured, very crisp wine offers notes of fresh butter, almond and vanilla in the finish.

MERCUREY White

Les Ormeaux - 2017

A wonderfully aromatic nose with scents of white fruit. The attack is fresh and mineral, developing into a well-rounded mid-palate, giving it perfect balance.

RULLY Red

La Chatalienne - 2017

Ruby red colour. The nose reveals aromas of black fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry. Deliciously gourmet palate with light tannins that add considerable balance.

MERCUREY PREMIER CRU Red

Les Velleys - 2014

This vintage is notable for its freshness but also its keeping potential. Very delicate aromas of red fruit such as redcurrant and blackcurrant make this an easy-drinking wine. You will love its silky structure, long finish and woody notes.

MERCUREY PREMIER CRU Red

Clos l'Evêque - 2017

Bottled when young, this wine begins to express itself after two years. Powerful but elegant, its aromatic richness of red fruit and woody notes will surprise you. Over time it develops complex notes of forest floor and black fruit. Dense, rounded, concentrated palate, with a remarkably long finish.

MERCUREY PREMIER CRU Red

Signature - 2012

An exceptional wine blended from the nine best barrels on the estate, only produced during an excellent vintage. Intense wine with a very fine structure. Very good keeping potential.
